2012 Forest Service Reunion Raffles Ruby the Mule to Benefit NMFSH
In support of the National Museum of Forest Service History, the 2012 "Rendezvous in the Rockies" will hold a raffle for a bronze sculpture of "Ruby the Mule". The sculpture by Bill Ohrmann, a Montana rancher and artist, was originally done in 1991 as part of the Centennial of the Forest Reserve System.

"Ruby" was one of the mules in the Northern Region's pack string managed by the Ninemile Ranger District on the Lolo National Forest.

In 2009, Forest Service retirees, John Hughes, John Drake, Tom Clifford, and Laird Robertson arranged with Mr. Ohrmann for additional castings of the sculpture to help support the National Museum of Forest Service History. This year a "Ruby" bronze sculpture is offered in this raffle to participants of the 2012 Reunion. Tickets can be purchased for $5 per ticket through registration and will also be available during the Reunion in Vail in September. Visit http://fsreunion2012.com/ to register.

NMFSH to present at Safari Club International meeting
In early February the Museum’s Executive Fellow Lynn Sprague and Regional Director Steve Mealey will make a presentation about the Museum to the Safari Club Foundation Conservation Committee. The sportsmen’s conservation community was a driving force behind the creation of the National Forest System and their support has endured to this day. Since 1937, hunters and anglers have invested more than $10 billion in wildlife conservation. Virtually all 193 million acres of the National Forests and Grasslands provide important habitat and are open to hunting for game species, such as elk, wild turkey, and mule deer.

NMFSH Reaches Out to Wildlife Conservation Community
Members of the NMFSH board and volunteer leadership corps attended the North American Wildlife and Natural Resources Conference in Kansas City, Missouri in March. The gathering draws representatives from conservation and sportsmen groups, many of which share a common history with the US Forest Service. Board member Larry Gadt was invited to speak to the board of the Boone & Crockett Club, a lead partner in the campaign to build the National Conservation Legacy and Education Center. The Boone & Crockett Club also donated space for the Museum's display at the conference. Pictured by the display are (from left to right): NMFSH Regional Director Steve Mealey, Larry Gadt, NMFSH Life Member Jack Blackwell, NMFSH Board Member and Boone & Crockett Club Chief of Staff Tony Schoonen, and NMFSH Capital Campaign Co-Chair Bob Model.

NMFSH Connects at Small Log Conference
The NMFSH was well represented at the Small Log Conference in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho in March. The meeting brought together national and international players specializing in small-diameter log utilization, including public and private forestry experts, community development specialists, woody biomass interests and conservationists. (Pictured from right to left) NMFSH Board members Arnie Didier and Dave Parcell helped organize the conference and were joined at the event by NMFSH Regional Director Dave Wright and Vice President Dave Stack.
