The  subgrade for the Museum access road and parking lot is being constructed at this time.  An asphalt layer will be applied following construction of the Museum building.   This phase of the project will be completed by June 11, 2009.

The project was designed by DJ&A Consulting Engineers of Missoula, MT.  The contract was awarded to Nelcon Inc with a low bid of $90,416. Major items in the bid scheduled included: 9,520 square yards of Geotextile; 2,816 cubic yards of excavation; and 3,000 cubic yards of 3” minus sub-base crushed gravel.

When completed, the parking lot capacity will be 37 cars plus room for 10 large vehicles.

A replica of the L-4 fire lookout cab from the original 1930s design, including the furniture, was constructed in 2006 on the museum site.  The lookout was originally built in Missoula by the Forest Service’s Historic Preservation Team for the 2005 Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington, DC., that recognized the Forest Service Centennial.
